Project:                St. James C of E Primary School, Blackburn
Client:
                  Lancashire County Council
Product/System:
Tor Coatings Ltd - Elastaseal 10 Year System
Size:                    200m2

Problem:  The felt on the roof area was showing signs of deterioration and as a result water was penetrating into the classroom below.  The work had to be done during term time which meant that stripping the existing roof and the use of hot bitumen materials was a real concern and an alternative had to be found.

Solution:  The deck was power washed to remove all contamination and any blisters in the existing felt were cut open and re-adhered to provide a substrate suitable for coating.  A Tor Coatings' Elastaseal 10 year  system was applied to the roof to provide a durable, waterproof membrane.

Project:               St Lukes WWT, Guild Park, Preston
Client:
                  Lancashire Care NHS Trust
Product/System:
Concrete Repair and Cementitious  Protective Coating
Size:
600m2

Problem:  Over many years the concrete sewage tanks have suffered from chemical attack from the raw sewage stored before being processed.  Much of the concrete cover to the steel had been lost and areas of exposed steel reinforcement spalling concrete were in evidence.

Solution:  The tanks were emptied and the concrete cleaned to allow inspection of the substrate.  Areas of exposed steel were broken out and repaired with a high build polymer modified mortar.  Prior to the application of a highly chemical resistant thin section cementitious coating which reinstated the eroded concrete cover and provided a chemical resistant lining to the tanks.

Project:               Walkers Crisps, Peterlee
Client:
                 Walkers Foods
Product/System:
Moisture-triggered Polyurethane Waterproof Coating
Size:
600m2

Problem:
Walkers were undergoing an extensive refurbishment of the plant and production facility and as such immediately needed to address the problem of a leaky roof over the affected area.  Leaks were caused by a failed single ply system; water was getting under the membrane and tracking to lower parts of the roof before dripping into the building.  Previous patch repairs had failed to locate and resolve the problem.

Solution:  Gables were brought in to look at the problem following completion of roof waterproofing at a shopping centre local to Walkers.  A moisture-triggered polyurethane system was applied directly to the single ply with local reinforcement around the roof detail, such as upstands, bulkheads and gutters.  This provided the client with a fully bonded 15-year watertight  solution avoiding the need to strip off the roof exposing the completed refurbishment works beneath.

Project:                Bamber Bridge Health Centre
Client:
                  Frank Whittle Partnership
Product/System:  Decothane Omega 15
Size:                    345m2

Problem: There are three individual areas to this roof, two felted and the third asphalt.  The roof was unsafe to access and the felt had reached the end of its life expectancy and was failing.
Solution:
An embedment coat of Liquid Plastic's Decothane incorporating a glass fibre reinforcement was applied to a new layer of carrier membrane to form a waterproof base layer, followed by the application of a top coat of Liquid Plastic's Decothane to give the client a watertight roof, guaranteed against future water ingress for a minimum of 15 years.

Project:               St Mark's House, Birkenhead
Client:
                 Trillium
Product/System:
Decothane HS & Monolevel 844SP
Size:
   1,600m2

Problem:
St Mark's House in Birkenhead, an office block that is part of the Trillium portfolio, was suffering from water ingress through the walls.  The construction below the windows on each floor consisted of brick slips mounted on a prefabricated board.  The brick slips were becoming loose and falling off in places causing the water ingress and presenting a potential danger to the office workers below.

Solution: Monolevel 844SP, a cementitious repair mortar was used to flush point the brick slips and hold them in place.  Decothane HS, a seamless waterproofing membrane, was then applied to fully waterproof the building and ensure that no further spalling would occur.

Gables completed the works on time and on budget with minimal disruption to the occupants within the building.
