Project: St Mark's House, Birkenhead

Client: Trillium

Product/System: Decothane HS & Monolevel 844SP

Size: 1,600m2

Problem:
St Mark's House in Birkenhead, an office block that is part of the Trillium portfolio, was suffering from water ingress through the walls.  The construction below the windows on each floor consisted of brick slips mounted on a prefabricated board.  The brick slips were becoming loose and falling off in places causing the water ingress and presenting a potential danger to the office workers below.

Solution: Monolevel 844SP, a cementitious repair mortar was used to flush point the brick slips and hold them in place.  Decothane HS, a seamless waterproofing membrane, was then applied to fully waterproof the building and ensure that no further spalling would occur.

Gables completed the works on time and on budget with minimal disruption to the occupants within the building.

Product/System: Decothane SP 25 year Built up Roofing System &                                             Monolastex Smooth Wall Coating System

Size: 300m²

Problem: This was a new build project which called for a circular roof area, laid to falls with good thermal peroperties and a design life of at least 25 years.  Feature walls around the roof area required coating in architect specified strong blue shades to complement the design of the building,

Solution: The Decothane SP 25 year built up roofing sustem was specified and Gables, a quality assured waterproofing contractor for Liquid Plastics Ltd, installed a plywood deck, 90mm of polyurethane insulation and a vapour barrier followed by the application of the Decothane Delta 25 system.

Coating work to the feature walls was undertaken with Monolastex Smooth in special shades of blue, to weatherproof the building against the extreme climatic conditions experienced on the Fylde coastline.

Liquid Plastics Ltd - Decothane SP

Size:
600m2

Problem: The school experienced water ingress through various of its felted flat roofs.  These roofs had become degraded over the years and were suffering from the effects of ponded water.  Typical problem areas for Gables to address were felt blisters, split joints, previous failed repairs and stone chippings.

Solution: Gables removed all stone chippings and cleared and repaired drainage outlets.  The whole area was power washed to remove all dirt and debris and then a full Liquid Plastic's Decothane Beta 10 System was applied.  This is cold, liquid applied to give the client a watertight, waterproof roof, guaranteed against future water ingress for a minimum of 10 years.

Project: Hangar Refurbishment/Conversion
Client:
Blackpool Zoo
Product/System:
Polymer Modified Render System with Protective Coating

Size:
600m2

Problem: Blackpool Zoo has recently undergone a major refurbishment and redevelopment programme, converting four large brick hangars into a new entrance, information centre, cafe, gift shop, nursery and elephant house.  The external facade of the building was constructed from old engineering brickwork and the Zoo wanted to update and brighten the external appearance.

Solution: Gables offered a high performance polymer-modified render system with excellent adhesion to the hard engineering brickwork.  This was over-coated with a compatible 15-year BBA  certified weatherproof protective coating.  The coating has strong elastomeric properties resistant to cracking and flaking which will ensure that, despite the harsh elements of the Fylde coastline, the buildings will look pristine for at least the 15 year guaranteed lifespan.

Project: Howebridge Mill

Product/System:
Tor Coatings Ltd - Elastaseal 10 Year System

Size:
3,000m2

Problem: The large, flat roof area at Howebridge Mill is of concrete construction with a failed layer of asphalt waterproofing, which at some time has been coated with a solar refelective paint.  Due to the lack of falls in the roof the asphalt was constantly under ponded water.  The asphalt deck suffered from blisters and cracks, allowing water to penetrate into the building.

Solution: The deck was power washed and scabbled to remove all contamination and previous failed coatings.  Drainage channels were widened and outlets lowered to improve drainage on the roof.  An embedment coat of Tor Coatings' Elastaseal and glass fibre matting was applied to form a waterproof base layer, followed by the application of a UV stable, solar reflective, protective top coat.

Project: Police Dog Training Kennels, Hutton
Client:
Lancashire Police

Product/System:
Flexcrete Technologies Ltd - Monomix and Cemprotec E942

Size:
32 Kennels

Problem: The police dogs at the kennels have been scratching and biting their way through the concrete blockwork, making the kennels unsafe to house the dogs.

Solution: The loose and damaged blockwork was removed back to a sound substrate, before the profile was reinstated using Flexcrete Monomix repair mortar.  The old wooden benches were removed and replaced with concrete benches.  All the wall areas and the benched were coated with Flexcrete  Cemprotec E942 to provide a hard, abrasion resistant coating.
